Putting the heart in communities

Kitchen Garden

A space where everyone is welcome to come together with the common goal of growing fresh produce.

What's it about?

The Repton Connect Kitchen Garden has been created as a space where everyone is welcome to come together with the common goal of growing fresh produce. The Kitchen Garden is located at the back of the Woodland space towards the rear of the Repton connect car park.

As well as partnering with local Schools we have a Gardening group which meets every Saturday from 10:30 – 12:30. This group is open to all no matter what your gardening experience and we warmly welcome visitors during our Saturday session.

If you cannot make it on Saturdays, then get in touch as access to the kitchen garden can be arranged at other times during the week.

There is always plenty to do in the Kitchen Garden including watering, planting, weeding, mowing and infrastructure projects such as building new raised beds, creating a lean-to on the shed, building the bottle greenhouse and expanding our rainwater harvesting system. Our Kitchen Garden volunteers also help manage the wider woodland space and in winter 2019 planted 180 trees throughout the site.

Since May 2019, our Gardening group and pupils from local schools have turned an empty space into a thriving kitchen garden. We have built 4 high raised beds, installed bark paths, created 3 large low raised beds, built a shed, created a rainwater harvesting system from a donated IBC tank and built a large composting bin.

There is still lots more space and we have exciting plans to expand our growing space in the months and years to come.
